Guadalevín´s Countess

Huerto de la Condesa is located in the old property of “Heredad de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores” which owes its construction to the Guadalevín´s Countess, Miss Carmen Ábela García (1849-1924), an important figure in the burgesy of Ronda city.

The Countess of Guadalevín title was granted by the king Alfonso XII for life, in 1917 Miss Carmen Ábela García was given that as a recognition to her contributions to Ronda city and to the State, highlighting the building of the “Concepción” guardhouse and the restoration of the old church of “El Socorro”.

She ordered the execution of the Musslim King House gardens y the “La Heredad de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores” to Nicolás Forestier, a famous French gardener author of the Maria Luisa Park in Seville or of the Liria´s Palace Gardens in Madrid.

The Railway

We named one of our wines “El Chacachá”, due to the old steam railways onomatopoeia. Our vineyards border with the Ronda-Algeciras railway, one of the most beautiful railway tracings in Spain, passing through singular landscapes such as “El desfiladero de las Buitreras”.

The rondeños collective sense was the first project in order to bring the railway to Ronda. The railway was developed mainly by English financiers with the intervention of the french engineer Carlos Lamiable. The development of the Ronda-Algeciras railway set off the touristic activity in the county, and within its framework they launched Hotel Reina Cristina in Algeciras and Reina Victoria in Ronda, both of them very similar to English architecture.

Romantic Ronda

During the 19th Century, the romantic image of the city was forged, as well as its Serranía, in which the banditry world, the Serranía muleteers and its cultural wealth caused a deep impression on the english passengers who at first in cavalries, and later with the railway, landed on Gibraltar and swept Andalucía from the Serranía of Ronda. These aspects turned, since then, into symbols of our culture and tradition. Dazzling particularities that makes it one of the most picturesque regions in Spain.

Modern Ronda

At the present time, it has become one of the most visited cities of Andalucía, with new allures such as the Ascari circuit or the new mill designed by Phillip Starck. As well as the quantity of cellars and a gastronomy credited by the best guides.
